Media Architecture Institute Vienna
The Media Architecture Institute (MAI) is a worldwide leading expert network in the field of media architectures. It was founded in fall 2009 by Dr. Gernot Tscherteu, Dr. Oliver Schürer, DI. Wolfgang Leeb, Dr. Martin Tomitsch. In 2011 Dr. Hank Häusler joined the scientific staff of the institute. The institute was designed to complement the work of established universities and research institutions with a very focused research activity, particular in providing a platform through its homepage, conference and exhibitions. The MAI continues the work of the former Media Architecture Group founded in 2006. As the institute is intentionally a small unit, it is in intense exchange with its international network partners. The flexible structure of the institute enables it to complement the project core team with advice and expertise from leading international architects / designers, technical consultants and scholars.
In 2012, the MAI, together with Aarhus University, organised the second Media Architecture Biennale, a congress that attracted an international audience in the field of media architecture and urban media installations.
